“IF you have goods in a storage shed in Port Macquarie you had best check they are still there.”

A spate of sheds have been raided by a pack of serial thieves in the past two weeks.

Port Macquarie Senior Constable Steve Cherry said bandits targeted sheds in Bellbowrie St, Jindalee Rd and Blackbutt Rd facilities. Between 5pm on Tuesday and 11am on Wednesday thieves broke into 11 sheds in Bellbowrie St.

Four sheds were ransacked in Jindalee Rd between 9am on January 3 and 12.30pm on January 4. Up to 12 sheds were targeted on New Year’s Eve in Blackbutt Rd.

Snr Const Cherry said police suspected more sheds were rummaged through at each site. He said police were calling on the public to come forward if they were victims of theft. He said people with stolen goods had to contact police before action could be taken. They should also contact the broker of the facility.

Snr Const Cherry believed the incidents were related. “It’s the same modus operandi (MO) – exactly the same at all three locations,” he said. “A set of bolt cutters has been used; there’s no CCT (closed circuit television). “They aren’t behind locked fences.

“The problem seems to be that a lot were locked with only one padlock – secure but not secure enough.”

Port Macquarie’s Nick Jakobsson lost about $8000 worth of carpentry equipment to the bandits. The 36-year-old plumber had his storage shed in Blackbutt Rd ransacked on New Year’s Eve. “To get all that stuff they must have had a truck or something,” he said.

It seems pretty well planned to me.”

If you have any information relating to the thefts contact Port Macquarie police on 6583 0199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
